For four years, 78-year-old Shakuntala from Mumbai suffering unrelenting pain in her shoulder and could not move it even for daily activities. Despite visiting several physicians and undergoing physiotherapy, she could not find any relief. Tests and CT scans revealed that she suffered from shoulder arthritis. An orthopaedic team at Fortis Malar Hospital undertook a special kind of replacement procedure and fixed her shoulder.
“She had severe pain and a cracking sound every time she tried to move her left shoulder. The arthritis which is common in knees had affected her shoulder and had damaged her bones and locked her rotator cuff muscles,” said Dr R Senthil Velan, consultant shoulder and elbow surgeon who performed the surgery along with orthopedic surgeon Dr Anand.
